PUKAR

Youth fellowship

The Youth and Urban Knowledge Production theme encourages community based youth to create new urban knowledge. This process leads to democratizing the knowledge producer, knowledge ownership and helps creates a level playing field for the marginalized youth who become leaders of their communities. A group of marginalized youth is provided with research and communication skills, through workshops, debates and dialogues conducted by facilitators, alumentors, innovators and resources persons. They partake in the research design based upon the needs assessment of the community and they collect the data. Armed with their research data, together they design, advocate, disseminate and implement change in their communities.

ABOUT PUKAR

Partners for Urban Knowledge, Action and Research (PUKAR) is an independent research collective and a knowledge production centre that provides a platform for cross disciplinary, multi-sectoral, community-based participatory action research on issues of urbanisation that connect the local and the global. PUKAR’s work draws upon the everyday realities of the city including the politics of space and identity through the lens of youth. It promotes research as a right for everyone and uses it as a tool for pedagogy, advocacy, intervention and transformation of the youth, the communities and the city at large.
